Energy Reduction

eco friendly cateringHarvest Moon Catering’s newly constructed commercial kitchen includes upgrades on wall insulation, energy efficient doors and lighting, along with state of the art energy efficient appliances.

We utilize a top of the line energy efficient CativeAire exhaust hood venting system. The insulated, double-wall rigid front has an aerodynamic design that reduces radiant heat into kitchen, prevents condensation, and provides exceptional capture and containment of cooking vapors.
Our kitchen also uses an instantaneous propane water heater. By operating only when hot water is needed, and no storage tank to heat and reheat water, we save on energy and utility costs, while reducing our carbon footprint.

Our Kitchen

Our commercial kitchen is lit using Light Emitting Diodes, (LED) lighting throughout for maximum efficiency. LED lights are more environmentally friendly than Compact Fluorescents (CFL’s), last longer, and use less energy. Each LED light burns approximately 50,000 hours, uses 6-8 watts of energy, and contains no mercury unlike CFL’s. In addition to energy reduction, LED lights emit less heat that CFL’s, turn on instantaneously, are highly durable, and have no sensitivity to temperature or humidity.

Waste

At Harvest Moon, we value sustainability and practice environmental stewardship through reducing waste and recycling what we don’t need. We use biodegradable, recyclable to-go containers, compost all preconsumer food scraps, recycle cardboard, plastic, aluminum, and glass. In addition, our used cooking oil is taken next door to be recycled into bio-diesel fuel.

Local Foods

At Harvest Moon Catering, we want to support our local economy and reduce our carbon footprint; that’s why we support our farmers, and use local produce, meats, wine, and beer as often as we can. Use of local products is also determined by the each individuals personal budget.

To Go Products & Leftovers

Your food is our business from preparation to leftovers. All to go products and left over food are packaged in biodegradable, recyclable containers made form paper, palm, and or corn products. We never use Styrofoam products that clogged up landfills, remain on the earth for thousands of years, and leach the chemical styrene, a known cancer causing carcinogen, into hot foods.

Our Paper Products

Harvest Moon Catering uses Seventh Generation, one of the most environmentally friendly paper products on the market. The bath tissue is 2-ply, natural unbleached, 100% recycled paper, with a minimum of 80% post-consumer content. The absorbent paper towels are made from 100 % recycled paper, with a minimum of 50% post-consumer content, are free from dye and fragrance, and are whitened without chemicals containing chlorine. The Seventh Generation 3-ply garbage bags are made from 65% post-consumer recycled plastic, sandwiched between 2 layers of virgin plastic for strength and durability. Using products made from post-consumer recycled materials help reduce our impact on the environment.

Our Cleaning Products

At Harvest Moon, we like the precautionary principle used by Method brand cleaning products which states, “if there’s a chance that an ingredient isn’t safe, we don’t use it.” That’s why we clean and sanitize our entire facility with Method cleaning products. Method products come from the industry’s first LEED platinum-certified plant, where they never use dirty cleaning agents, like phosphates or bleach, in their formulas. All Method ingredients are rigorously evaluated by an independent material research agency for health and environmental safety.

Our Future

Harvest Moon Catering takes pride in our “Green Initiatives” and will continue the effort to reduce our carbon footprint. We hope you will join us in the movement towards a cleaner, greener future.
